Dual-Core Android 4 Dev Kit Assembly instructions

The following are instructions on how to get your Dual-Core Android 4 Dev Kit up and running.  You will need the following items from the kit:

1.  BeagleJuice, 2nd Gen*

 2.  BeagleTouch

3.  Android 4 ICS SD Card

4.  2-pin 5V Barrel Jack Cable

5.  2-pin 5V HDMI Power Cable**

6.  HDMI Board

7.  PandaBoard ES

8.  I2C Touch Cable

9.  1 ft. HDMI to HDMI Cable

Keep your BeagleJuice, 2nd Gen in the OFF position until you are sure the kit has been assembled properly
** Do NOT plug the I2C Touch cable into the 5V rail on the BeagleJuice. If the 5V rail is live, you will short the PandaBoard, causing irreparable damage.

Figure 1

To start, you will need the PandaBoard ES and the I2C Touch Cable. Reference Figure 2.

Figure 2

On the back of the board, connect the male pins of the I2C Touch Cable to the 2-pin female connector.* Be sure that the orange wire is positioned above the yellow wire. The orange wire should be facing the Ethernet and USB jack.

Next, you will need to the mount the BeagleJuice 2 to the back of the PandaBoard. In the box containing the BeagleJuice 2, there will be 4 screws, 4 stand offs,  and 4 nuts.  Note that the minimum charge time for the BeagleJuice 2 unit is about 8 hours.

Figure 8 (1. BeagleJuice 2, 10. screws, 11. stand offs, 12. nuts)

Put the screws through the holes in the BeagleJuice 2 PCB, and then place the stand offs on top of the screws. As shown in Figures 9 - 11.

Now that the PandaBoard is mounted to the BeagleJuice 2, you will want to plug in the cables that will power the PandaBoard, the HDMI board and the BeagleTouch. You will see 4 2-pin female molex connectors next to the battery cells on the back of the BeagleJuice 2 board. Note: You can plug the 2-pin 5V Barrel Jack Cable and the 2-pin 5V HDMI Power Cable to any of these connectors highlighted in Figure 15.  Remeber, dNOT plug the I2C Touch cable into the 5V rail on the BeagleJuice. If the 5V rail is live, you will short the PandaBoard, causing irreparable damage.

Your next steps will be to connect the HDMI board to the PandaBoard and power it via the BeagleJuice 2. To do so, you will use the HDMI-HDMI cable, the 2-pin 5V HDMI power cable  and the I2C Touch Cable.

Figure 20

First, plug one end of the HDMI cable into the PandaBoard, and then the other into the HDMI board (as shown in Figures 21-24)
