GeoShield Troubleshooting tips

Page history last edited by sarith.ong@liquidware.com 11 years, 9 months ago

If you find yourself having trouble with the GeoShield, take a moment to read through this page.

  1. What type of board are you using the GeoShield with? A duemilanove, UNO or UNO R3? Is the Geoshield plugged directly into it?
  2. Are you using a DoubleWide or DoubleTall ExtenderShield?
  3. If you are not using an ExtenderShield, are you experiencing RF interference? If so, have you tried this hack located on wiki?
  4. Do you have a clean line of sight to the sky? I have found that the GeoShield works best outside, or near a window.
  5. How much time have you let your GeoShield collect data? In the past, it has taken anywhere from 5-45 minutes for the GeoShield to start collecting GPS data.
  6. Is the 2nd LED from the right (marked in red below) blinking?

  • Have you tried downloading the most recent Arduino Antipasto IDE from here? The latest version is Antipasto-0044.
  • Finally, have you downloaded the latest drivers located here for to help code your UNO?

If your still having trouble either compiling or uploading your codes, check to see if you have the proper driver installed. In doing so, you can follow the steps below.

Getting the Arduino R3 to compile and upload codes:

If Windows failed to install the drivers, you will have to manually install the driver yourself.

Open start menu -->right click Computer --> scroll down and click properties.

In System Window --> click Device manager (top left corner).

In Device Manager --> scroll down to Unknown device --> right click, then select Update Driver Software.

Select the Browse button.

Browse your Arduino folder --> select "drivers", click OK, then next.

Windows will now install the Drivers.

Make sure the board is selected.

Make sure the Antipasto IDE recognizes the serial port (mine is Com 6).

On a Mac OS

Download the Arduino Antipasto IDE.

Install the FTDI Driver

Run the Arduino Antipasto app.

Select the board type.

Make sure your serial port is recognized.

Now you should be able to compile and upload your codes.

Try our GeoShield Arduino GPS app.

This is a set of code for a TouchShield Slide, GeoShield, and Arduino that turn them into a full-signal GPS device.
