BeagleJuice

Page history last edited by sarith.ong@liquidware.com 11 years, 8 months ago

The BeagleJuice makes the BeagleBoard portable. A battery module that provides a 5V power supply directly to the BeagleBoard, it can be mounted onto the back side using standoffs, which keeps the expansion ports easily accessible.

The 4500 mAh Li-ion battery is charged using specialized charging circuitry that boosts performance for longer-lasting applications. The module itself can supply power through a special, 2-pin barrel jack, or directly through wires on dual pin headers. It can be charged through a Type B-mini USB port, and a second USB port is also available for accelerated charging.

Like most portable, hand held devices, the BeagleJuice can provide power while plugged in, and there’s an on/off switch to make booting and shutting down simple. Best of all, the modular form of the BeagleJuice fits with the BeagleTouch to sandwich the BeagleBoard – resulting in a solid, handheld Linux-based computer in the palm of your hand.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long does it take to charge the battery fully?

  • Typically it takes about 8hrs for a BeagleJuice to fully charge (I typically charge mine with only 1 USB mini cable and that seems to work best)

Is there any indication that the battery has finished charging?

  • When the orange light turns off, the BeagleJuice is fully charged.
  • If the orange light (LED) does not turn off after sufficient charge time, you might want to check the battery voltage (Vb) and if it is between 4.1V and 4.3V it is charged.  If it is not fully charged, contact Rith or Dora.

Is there any indication of the charge remaining in the battery?

  • If you measure the voltage on the battery (Vb pin)and it it below 2.5V, your battery is running out of juice.  If your battery if over 4.15V you are fully charged.

Why are one of the LEDs red?

  • The red LED is the fault LED this usually will light up if the battery has been stressed and is not working properly.  If after a reset the red LED does not turn off, you might want to contact Rith or Dora to learn more.
